ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Dr. Hosen Kiat

Dr Hosen Kiat is an Australian- and US-board certified cardiologist, best known for his pioneering work in cardiovascular medicine, nuclear cardiology, cardiac imaging and integrative health. Ranked among the top 1% for research influence of clinical academics worldwide, he has authored over 200 peer-reviewed scientific publications and co-invented cardiac imaging software now used globally to assess heart function and blood flow.

Born in Jakarta to an Indonesian–Chinese family, he migrated alone to Australia at 15 on a scholarship. This early cross-cultural exposure influenced his career, inspiring him to unite Eastern and Western approaches to medicine. He trained in internal medicine and cardiology in Australia before completing further specialty training at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, later serving as its Director of Cardiac Imaging Research.

Dr Kiat was the foundation professor of cardiology at Macquarie University, where he played a key role in establishing the University Hospital and medical school. Today, he holds multiple academic appointments and continues research into cardiovascular innovation – from imaging technologies and the heart–brain–gut axis to neurocardiology, photobiomodulation and the clinical benefits of traditional practices such as tai chi and herbal medicine. He has cared for over 100,000 patients worldwide. On his ongoing journey of learning, Dr Kiat reflects on prevention and compassionate care, with a hope that ageing can be lived with health and dignity.
