Professor Ralph Martins, AO
ALZHEIMER'S AND DEMENTIA RESEARCHER
Professor Ralph Martins is one of Australia's leading Alzheimer's disease researchers and an internationally recognised authority on dementia, brain health and healthy ageing.
Over a career spanning four decades, Professor Martins has contributed to major advances in understanding the biological mechanisms involved in Alzheimer's disease and the factors that influence cognitive decline. His research has explored genetics, biomarkers, nutrition, oxidative stress, neuroinflammation, lifestyle risk factors and strategies for early detection, diagnosis and prevention.
Professor Martins is Director of Research at Alzheimer’s Research Australia, Professor of Neurobiology at Macquarie University, Foundation Chair of Aging and Alzheimer’s disease at Edith Cowan University and Chair of Alzheimer’s Research at The University of Western Australia.
Beyond the laboratory, he is a passionate advocate for dementia awareness and healthy ageing, having worked closely with renowned Australian chef Maggie Beer on her 'Recipies For Life' cookbook and co-authored children’s literature with Sally Yule designed to aid younger generations in exploring important themes around dementia.
